The Feldenkrais Method

I believe that the unity of mind and body is an objective reality. They are not just parts somehow related to each other, but an inseparable whole while functioning. A brain without a body could not think. Moshe Feldenkrais

The Feldenkrais method is named after it's founder Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. The method uses the brains amazing ability to change and make new neural connections throughout our lifetime in order to improve the quality of peoples lives.

The method helps

The method uses movement and enhanced body awareness to create new patterns of action, movement and feeling. The work assists us find our way out of habitual, limiting and pain-producing habits into more pleasant, intelligent action. Often people with long-standing pains or movement limitations experience clear improvements within the first few sessions.

The method was developed over 40 years of research by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais who was an Educator, Engineer, Scientist and Judo master. Clients typically respond to lessons or one-to-ones by noticing the elimination or reduction of pain, improved flexibility and mobility, others notice a new lightness of movement, a sense of being taller, or greater clarity of mind.

The work is taught in two forms:

Movement classes (usually with groups) called Awareness Through Movement® and hands-on sessions called Functional Integration®

Awareness Through Movement®:

The Feldenkrais method has the largest body of movement lessons in the world. These are verbally guided, enjoyable and ingenious movement explorations. The classes are carried out in lying, sitting or standing each one taking a particular function or group of functions of movement as its theme. The intention is to add new possibilities of movement, regain effortlessness and ease in movement, reduce tension, eliminate pain, and increase our own awareness of how we unconsciously act to bring on unwanted states. People who do these lessons often experience a new lightness and freedom in their bodies and positive emotional states. The classes are open to all regardless of age or state of health. If, however, you are experiencing serious pain or lack of mobility please contact me to discuss ways of proceeding with the work. (Click on courses for pricing)

Functional Integration®

FI is the one-to-one modality of the work. Here I create sessions for the individual needs of the person. This is mostly hands on work carried out in a respectful, gentle manner. The client is fully clothed and often lying down for a good part of the session. Through the interaction of practitioner and client new and improved modes of movement, action and thought can be discovered. My aim is to provide individualised and fast acting sessions. Most people notice improvements in the first or second visit.
